Backup on exit to project folder
« am: 02. Juni 2004, 23:05:16 »
Hello,

In version 8.4.1 there is a system option "Backup".  I have selected a backup to the projct folder on exit from WDP.  The problem is that it only backs up to the original project folder and not the current project folder.

Is this a "bug" or have I misunderstood the intent of the function?

Thanks
Adrian

Hello Adrian,

The backup to the project folder option should work in the following:
You are project is called for example "WS16".
When you leave WDP all project files are copied from the WDP-Main-Folder (e.g. "c:\wdigipet") to the project folder (here e.g. "c:\wdigipet\projects\ws16").

Can you please explain what you mean by original and current project folder? Can you make an example for your problem?

Best wishes
Markus

Hello Markus,

When WDP was first installed, I gave it the project name Hampden at the prompt.  Since then I have used the Projects tool to load a new project named Hampden6 (I am evolving the layout as I learn more about WDP)..   I am assuming that the process of loading a project also makes it the active project.

When I exit WDP, it still saves everything into the Hampden project folder and not the Hampden6 project folder.

Thanks
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

if you use the maintenance tool of WDP (e.g. Backup), the CURRENT project will always be archived in the BACKUP-Folder.

If you CHANGE the project (from Hampden to Hampden6), first the current project will be stored in its project folder (Hampden) and then the new project (Hampden6) will be loaded.

But again, if you the process a backup via the maintenance tool the current project (now Hampden6) will be stored in the BACKUP-folder.

Regards

Rüdiger

Thanks Rüdiger,

Yes that approach does work and it forms part of the way that I transfer updated projects to the layout PC from the Office PC.  But when I get to the layout PC, I often need to "fine tune" the changes.  For example, I might change the acceleration factor on one of the timetable lines so that the loco would stop closer to a signal.

I guess that I need to get in the habit of copying the backup folder to the correct project folder.  At least this way another edition of the layout is not destroyed.

Cheers
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

in general you need the following files:

GBild.dat > your layout
WDRoutes.mdb > all routes
WDigilok.mdb > locomotive database
***.fpl > all timetables
AK***.dat > all files for the Automatic by demand contacts

Regardless of the project, above mentioned files are the main files with all your individual data.
So if you edit your current project on a different PC, you need to exchange these files (easily done by e.g. an USB-memory stick).
In terms you have a turntable you need the DSxxx.dat as well. That´s it.

Rüdiger

P.S.: and regardless of anything > still don´t forget to make a backup accordingly!!!

Hello Rüdiger,

Thanks for that information.  I notice that my backup directory also includes a AS1_9.DAT file. What does this do?

Thanks
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

the file "AS1_9.dat" contain the screen partitions (1-9) you have configured within the track editor to "jump" directly to the several screen areas (if created, you can see the buttons in the upper menu bar).

Hello again Rüdiger,

Thanks for that information.  I don't use partitions as the layout is not very big, but it is nice to know what the various files do for the layout.
