I have experienced something similar with my Marklin CS and 6017 booster when the booster appeared to be broke.
Sorry I am not able to add more but maybe there is a hardware problem.

Hello!

Since I did the changes proposed by the Zimo help, I have not had this problem again.  So I do hope it is over, but I cannot be sure, not yet…..  If it indeed is OK now, it should mean some kind of hardware problem.  We will see……
