More than one virtual keyboard?
« am: 31. Dezember 2003, 20:10:37 »
In the vitual keyboard you can allocate 32 routes to be switched by the buttons on the keyboard. If you have 33 routes or more there is a need for more than one virtual keyboard. In the route editor, when you have opened the virtual, there are arrows that change the number of the virtual keyboard, but I can't find a way to get a second keyboard. The only thing that happens is that the number of the board is changed but there is still only one keyboard. Is it impossible to have two or more virtual keyboards?

Lars,

you can only assign a max. of 32 routes to the (one) virtual keyboard.
Question from my side: Isn´t it much more comfortable to select routes via SWITCH & DRIVE instead of the Virtual Keyboard? There´s no need to remember IDs.
To be honest, we are considering to terminate this (old) feature for the release V9 at the end of 2004 (or later for the International Version), Except the Users would like to keep this feature also in future...(but since "years" nobody asked for).

Hi Rüdiger,

I must say that I like the virtual keyboard very much, and I was disappointed when I found that it was limited to 32 buttons. Since there is a number attached to the keyboard I thought that it was possible to get more than one.
It is sad to read that you plan to remove it from the program. I think it can be even more useful if you make it expandable in one of two ways. Either you can make it possible to expand the keyboard (so that the user can make it wider and/or higher when there is need for it), or you can make it possible to attach several keyboards to the screen. Another enhancement would be if you showed the Description instead of the ID-text in the black field in the bottom of the keyboard.
My opinion is that is much quicker to switch all the turnouts of a certain route by pressing one button on the virtual keyboard than to open the Switch and Drive window, select a route and then press a button to activate it.
I guess that the Switch and Drive window is very useful when you run with automation, but if you just want to switch the turouts for a certain route and run the trains manually I prefer the virtual keyboard. It looks that I might be alone in this way of running Win-Digipet. It would be interesting to know if that really is the case!

So from my point of view I would be happy if the virtual keyboard can stay in the program and some enhancements to it would make me even more happy.

Best regards,
Lars

Hi Lars,

OK, we will discuss this internally how to proceed with the virtual keyboard.

I´m sure you are not alone, but to be honest, as far as I know, you are the first asking to expand this feature, because in common users have mor than 100++ routes configured and therefore - even if they use WDP in manual operation - they prefer "Switch & Drive".

But the decision has not been made and if there are still user which prefer the virtual keyboard, we will keep it of course! As already mentioned, if we expand this feature in future we will discuss internally.
