Delayed loco reactions
« am: 28. März 2004, 03:05:46 »
When I run my layout with the help of Win-Digipet some of the loco decoders do not react immediately when I give commands to them such as increase speed, decrease speed, stop, turn lights on or off etc. It can take up to ten seconds before the reaction comes. It doesn’t happen with all decoders but with many of them.
If I start the IB and run it without Win-Digipet the locos’ reactions are normal. If I then turn on Win-Digipet the delayed reactions appear. If I then turn off Win-Digipet again the delayed reactions remain.
I get the impression that Win-Digipet changes something in the IB that is not reset until I re-boot it.
(I run Win-Digipet 8,4 international.)

Hi Lars,

I never heard about this. 10sec delay of sending loc commands would cause more crashes than normal operations.

Can you describe it in more detail, incl. infos about the digital system you use and its environment.

Regards

Rüdiger

Hi,

I guess there is a lot of technical details that may be of interest to you, which ones I don't know, so I start with a description of what I have, and if you need to know more I can of course give it to you later.

I power my layout with an IB and two boosters (Power 3 from Uhlenbrock). I have both DCC and Motorola loco decoders.
My PC has a 1,25 GHz CPU and 256 MB memory and is running Win2000. The communication between the PC and the IB is set 19600.
While wrinting this to you I have done some test and they have given these results:
After a cold start/boot of the IB the problem does not occur on any loco.
As soon as i start Win-Digipet the problem occurs on some DCC decoders (never on Motorola decoders). I mainly use two types of DCC-decoders - Zimo MX61 model 2000 and Roco 10738 (manufactured by ESU). Right now I have tested with three Roco locos (all of the Swedish RC6 type). Two have Zimo decoders and they show a delay sometimes up to around 15 seconds, and the third loco has a Roco/ESU decoder and it reacts instantly. I have also tested with two other Roco locos, the German E16 and E17 with Zimo decoders, and no delay appears on them. The last loco I have tested for the moment is an old Märklin Da (Swedish) with a Faulhauber engine and a Zimo decoder, and it works alright.
The idle signals on the IB's SO25 is set to 3 and SO907 is set to 5.
Well, there is some information about this little mystery. If there is more you need to know I will galdly pic it up for you as soon as I know what you might want to know.

My first reaction to this was that it may not be a Win-Digipet problem at all, but since it works alright before i turn on the Digipet software my conclusion this far is that Digipet probably has someting to do with it anyway.

Best regards,
Lars

Hi,

Some more information about this problem:
I have discovered that when I turn off the function Anti-flicker in the setup window the delays disappear!

It seems strange but it works.
