Marklin Motorola Decoder Type OLDversus NEW model
« am: 26. Juli 2003, 08:51:08 »
Hi all,
I still have a set of new Marklin locs. Using the loc database seems to work using both the Motorola Old (14) and Motorola New (27) decoder type protocol.
In such case what is the best choice to use ?
Cheers,
Thalys

Hi Thalys,

in case of old Mot-decoders I recommend to use the old format (14) in the loc-database. Vice versa for the new decoders.
Ensure that the IB is configured the in the same way for each address.

In the "Tipps&Tricks" section it is decribed how to find out which kind of Mot-decoder is mounted.

Thanks Rüdiger.
By the way I didn't find the 'Tip&Tricks' ref you had mentioned to determine the version of the Motorola decoder type...(not in the manual, not in the UK section of this forum) so please help me to find this ref.
Thanks,
Kind regards,
Thalys

Hi Thalys,

hmm, you are right! I remember that I´ve translated the Tipps&Triks a while ago, but - I also do not find it here in the new forum...

The easiest way to check, whether you got a new or an old Mot-decoder ist the direction check:

Put on a loc onto the tracks: direction forward!!!
Pick it up and change direction via the loc control.
Place the loc back to the track and drive.

a) If the loc has noticed the change of the direction even it was powerless, then a new Mot-decoder ist build in.

b) if the loco still drives into the same direction (and therefore did not notice the change of the direction) it´s an old Mot-decoder.

Hope this simple check helps.

Regards

Hello,

I have moved the german part of the discussion to the german forum. I think this makes more sense. Please follow this  link to the german forum.
I would suggest to continue the german discussion in the german forum.

Best wishes
Markus
