Now that I have a new computer, I have been busy reconfiguring WDP to take advantage of the new features.  This afternoon I converted a Marklin 49963 Snow Plow from a locomotive into a wagon, and noticed that the drop down items in the vehicle/crane field are still in the original German text. if this can't be fixed, can I please have a translation of the Marklin bits?

The second thing I have noticed since upgrading to WDP 2012.1 is that it can take 10 minutes for the Vehicle database window to open, after I click on the icon within the main window. This even happens when I use the office version. After the first time I open the database window, it opens at the normal speed until I reboot the PC. I have tried repairing and compressing the database, deleting the old files and I have reinstalled the WDP2012.1  four times so far.  I don't want to recreate the vehicle database as there are 52 records in there already, with more to be added as I include the wagons. I have had this database since the original version 8 of WDP and it has been through five updates now.. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Hi Adrian,

please replace the Krancontrol.wdp in the Win-Digipet directory with the version attached to this thread.

Regarding the other problem. Please give us a backup of your Win-Digipet project.

Regards
Markus

Hello Markus,

The Crane Control file worked perfectly.

I have attached the project backup in two parts as it was too large to attach to this post. Part one is in this post.

Cheers

And part two is attached to this one.

Thank you for looking at this for me.  There is no rush as the layout will still run.. I just go and make a coffee the first time I start the layout, it is fine for the rest of the day as long as there is no need to reboot the computer.

Cheers

Hi Adrian,

unfortunately I can not see any problem/time-issue when opening your data and the vehicle database. I´ll ask some of the betas to test your data also.

Hi Adrian,
Markus sent your backup files and some of the beta collegues (include myself) has tested these files without any problems. I'm sorry, but at the moment i'd only tried it with the office version.

What i can do when i'm returning home end of the week, is to try it again with a connection to the ecos. Maybe you can send me a backup file of your ecos database, this will give me the chance to look for any errors after installing it to my own system.

Do you have some locos which are created two-times in your ecos database?

kindly regards
Bernd

Hello Markus and Bernd,

Thanks for looking at this for me.. It looks like it not a database problem, but a problem within my PC.. The problem is still there, I have just come upstairs after waiting for the vehicle database to open from within the Office version..  I might try it on the upstairs computer to see if there is any difference - it will, at least, confirm that the problem lies in the PC itself.

It happens with the office version so I am not sure that the eCOS configuration is a factor, but I have attached the eCOS backup for you..

I am fairly sure that I don't have duplicate locos in the eCOS, but I do have some locs with the same Motorola address. These locos are never on the layout at the same time..

Thanks again
Adrian

*** An update ***

I have just finished installing WDP on the upstairs computer. I can't duplicate the configuration as the train room is too far away, so I can only run the office version. This is fine, as the problem occurs when running the office version too.

After installing from the WDP 2012.1 CD-ROM I copied the files from WINDIGIPET_INT folder of the Train room computer into the same folder on the upstairs computer. From a files perspective the computers are identical, with the only difference being hardware drivers for SpeedCat, USBToSerial (for the HSI-88), any registry settings and, of course the hardware itself (both computers run Windows 7 and have 8Gb ram, but the Train room computer is an i5, while the upstairs computer is an i7)..

The result of the testing is the the problem is not evident on the upstairs computer. So the next step is to rebuild the new train room computer.. Sigh..  :(

I apologise for not thinking to do this testing earlier.  :-[ I guess that I had convinced myself that the vehicle database must have been corrupted by the upgrades from version 8 to 9 to X to 2009 and then to 2012. I should not have doubted the high standard of your software development and quality assurance processes..  :)

Thanks again for your assistance.

I have just finished updating the train room computer and I am please to say that the problem is not evident in the rebuild.  At this stage, the only thing I can attribute to the problem is that I may have removed something important from the PC while I was removing the "junk" software that comes with new computers these days.

I am about to resume locomotive calibration with SpeedCat, so I will see if anything changes over the next week or so..

Thanks again for you help everyone.

... Do you have some locos which are created two-times in your ecos database?...

Hello Bernd,

The good news is that after nearly one month the problem has not returned to cause problems for me..

I took your advice and had a good look at the eCos and Vehicle database using the tool in section 5.8 of the manual.  It was a big job because all the WDP locos/wagons need to be marked as "Layout" in order for the tool to work correctly. (Perhaps in WDP 2014 we could have an option to set all items to "Layout" or "Display Case"?) Anyway, I managed to find duplicates in the eCOS from the days when WDP did not support mFx and a couple of locos with mismatched MM addresses - the really odd thing is that were working on the layout.

All is good now.. Thank you for the hint.
