Intelibox in the same time as DC and AC system
« am: 27. Mai 2010, 15:27:43 »
Hi from Athens.
I have the ProX and Intelibox on Marklin K track. I have put also an other independent line for the Roco "Strassenbahn".
For the Marklin system all electric thinks is easy. 4 boosters , 5 S88 , 14 K83 , 6 K84 also the Roco 40111~ crane and the Marklin Turntable works perfect. The problem now is to know exactly the components for the DC system!
I make a parking with one turnout (2 Trams Roco) and all story in my layout is this:
The tram No.1 to start from the parking No:1 to go to the first "Tram Stop" and after 10 seconds of STOP, to go to finish at the "Central Station". After 2 minutes of stop on "Central Station" to going back to the "Tram Stop" and after a stop of 10 seconds to going again to his parking No.1.After 15 seconds the tram No2 from the parking No.2 to start to make the same story ,so ,to go to the first "Tram Stop" and after 10 seconds of STOP, to go to finish at the "Central Station". After 2 minutes of stop on "Central Station" to going back to the "Tram Stop" and after a stop of 10 seconds to going again to his parking No.2 and start again the Tram No.1 and after again the No.2.....
Regarding the Decoders for Roco trams I think to buy 2 Tams decoders DCC with function.
First of all, i mast use my Intelibox. But i use his power for one part of the Marklin layout.
1. Is problem for his power to use the Intelibox in the same time as DC  and AC system? If is it problem what type of connection for the boosters can use, the same like Marklin, Tams, Littfinski in Motorola Format and in the same line after this boosters to connect a booster (Motorola Format & DCC) for DC layout??
2. The Roco turnout can be connected to K83 that i use for the Marklin System? If not, what type of K83 mast buy?
3. I mast make Feedback contacts.( 2 at the parking - 1 at "Tram Stop" - 1 at "Central Station").What type of S88 mast use and the most important , HOW TO CUT THE LINE AND FOR HOW DISTANCE 10 - 15 cm or 20 cm  ?
A. ( On AC is easy, but  on DC track...!!!!)
B. (the cut ed pcs. can have current?)
C. (The Littfinski "RM-GB-8-N  8-fold Feedback Module with integrated Track Occupancy Report" can be a propose? Other cheaper S88??)
D.( I have the Viessmann 5217 "DIGITAL2" is O.K. for DC System?)
THANK YOU in advance and best regards.

Hello Konstantinos,

I don't believe that you can control 3-rail and 2-rail with one controller at the same time.  You can, however, operate two or more different systems in WDP.  But you would need two different controllers which work independent from each other.

I don't use 2-rail, so I can't help you there.  But I think for feedback the 2-railers use a resistor on the axles of cars and wagons with a special decoder that detects changes in power usage?  Maybe a 2-railer can enlighten you.

Aloha,

Elliott

I don't know about the Intellibox as it is years since I owned one, but I can't see why a multi-protocol device like the ESU eCOS could not run two lines to separate and isolated tracks to drive different trains.. It makes sense to me..  :)  It becomes more an issue of how much power the combined layouts consume..

I could image an AC layout and a DC shuttle train running in an elevated section above the main layout..  I don't think that digital locos run AC anyway - not even marklin ones so you are only talking about where you feed the red wire.. (center rail for marklin and one side for DCC)..

Thank you!
I try the Viessmann 5233, also a multiprotokoll decoder and i try with AC from my layout!!!!
I hope to be O.K.
Thanks for all

Hi,

at our monthly meeting we have a table with H0 AC and DC plus N DC comming. Adrian is right. We also use the Ecos and it is absolutly no problem to run different systems with one multi-protocol device at the same time. We even want to add the car system in the middle and will run it with the Ecos, too. As long as the central unit gets its feedback signals and is a multi-protocol thing it will work.
Viele Grüße,
Stefan

Hello,

@Stefan:

This is interesting!  How are the connections made to the separate layouts?  I also have a Roco Strassenbahn and would like to operate it separately.  Can this be done with a CS2?  (i.e. can I call up two different locomotives on the controller[one on Marklin track and one on DC track] and operate them independently?)  How about feedback...special decoders?

Sorry for the many questions, if I can get my Roco Strassenbahn to  work without buying a separate controller, that would be great.

Hi Elliott,

does the Strassenbahn have DCC/DC? As far as I know the CS2 is not (yet) able to control DCC. But if it does or you take another central unit you can run different systems and even different sizes at the same time with one unit! WDP doesn't care where the loco is and why shouldn't it be on another track? To be extreme you even could control 2 seperate layouts with it.

For feedback etc. I can only tell you something about DC/DCC. Which material I use you can see in my signature.
Viele Grüße,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

The Roco strassenbahn doesn't have a decoder, it's pure DC.  That's where I think I got confused :-[
I need to have a digital decoder before I can make it work.  As Konstantinos pointed out:

"Regarding the Decoders for Roco trams I think to buy 2 Tams decoders DCC with function."

I believe the CS2 can operate DCC with the latest version, but I cannot test it because I have no DCC Locomotives.

Hello together,

I think the confusing thing in all discussions regarding this topic is everytime, that people are always talking about AC and DC.
Regarding the digital modell raildroads, it would be better use the terms 2-rail- (e.g. Roco, Fleischmann) and 3-rail-system (Märklin).
For the digital systems it makes no difference if you send your digital information threw 2- oder 3-rail-system-tracks, even at the same time. But in any case each locomotive needs a digital decoder.

In the 2-rail-world these decoders are normally used in DCC-format or Selectrix-format, while 3-rail-users mostly use Motorola or MFX (because Märklin sells all locomotives with this type of decoders). But it is no problem to use for example MFX-decoders in 2-rail-locomotives or a DCC-decoders in 3-rail-locomotives (this is very popular when modifiying Märklin locomotives, for example 80% of my Märklin locomotives have been equiped with DCC-decoder, because I wanted to get rid of all MM-decoders).

So you can even use the same booster for both system at the same time (but I won´t suggest this to keep a better overview).

Regarding Konstantinos´s questions:
You can make nearly everything as you did it for 3-rail before, but you have to use feedback decoders with track occupation report (e.g. the mentoined Viessmann oder LDT decoder).

Regards
Markus
