WDP 2012 hanging converting WDIGILOK.MDB von V 8.0 nach 2012

I have Win-Digipet 2012 Premium up and running on my laptop.

However, I am trying to install a copy on a desktop pc which will eventually be used to control my layout.

CD installs OK, but when trying to open WDP it hangs attempting to convert the database from version 8 to 2012 ... Why?

It also will not allow me to install the 2012-2 upgrade.

PC has Windows 7 home premium and MS Office 2007 (including Access 2007) installed

Hello,

when using Windows 7or 8 it's not sufficient to be an administrator to install Windigipet. Look for setup.exe (or similar) on the CD and make a right click. Then chose "install as an administrator" or similar. You have to do the same with the update. This is a matter of Windows not of Windigipet.

Why is it trying to convert the Loco Database from v8 to 2012 Premium anyway?  I have never had version 8, surely the CD should contain version 2012?

Update.

Copied the entire WDIGIPET_INT folder from the working installation on my laptop to the same location on my PC. This included my working version of Wdigilok.mdb.

Still no success, still trying to convert the loco database file and hanging.

Yes, right-click and "run as administrator"

we had this problem often and it was always a problem of installing WDP. You can forget the strange error message concerning the database. This message appears because WDP is not installed propperly. I suggest you uninstall WDP and reinstall it. Maybe it's a good idea to stop your anti virus program while installing.

Still no joy.

Uninstalled WDP 2012
Deleted the WDIGIPET_INT folder as I noticed that the "uninstall" left it present.
Re-booted computer
Turned off anti-virus software (MSE)
Installed from CD (run as administrator), that appeared to complete OK (I had left the computer for a couple of hours)
Ran WDP 2012 and got the "enter project name" dialog - fine
Then got the "Caution need to convert loco dataset to 2012" - something like that - and it hung, again, so aborted that.
Called up Data Maintenance to attempt a restore from my NAS drive backup - the data path was already there which suggested that the previous uninstall had not cleared the registry fully.
Restored from backup - it came up with several file errors which I had to ignore to continue.
Ran WDP 2012-2 upgrade - that appeared to work fine.
Ran WDP 2012 Office and that just went straight into the "convert loco database" bit and hung ......... again.

It looks to me like I have some corrupted registry files/entries which are not cleared out by an uninstall.

Unless you have a better idea, I will uninstall WDP 2012 again then restore the PC back to before the first WDP install (I have just checked the available restore points) - when I get the time.

is there really a WDigilok.mdb in the installation folder (which means is there really a vehicle database)?

I think the restore point is a good idea. Stefan mentoined this usually an installation problem. In most cases in the past an (un)installation of another program destroyed the database drivers of Win-Digipet. And in some cases this driver can not repaired by a Win-Digipet reinstallation.

As before: try the restore point of Windows.

Yes, even after uninstalling the software WDIGIPET_INT, LOKBILDER and PROJEKTE folders remain.

There is a Wdigilok.mdb file (98kb) in the PROJEKTE folder dated 15/06/2007 so this is probably the file that the system is trying to convert.

The remaining of the folders is correct, because otherwise personal data would be wiped. For a full remove remove also this folders.

No, this WDigilok.mdb in the Projekte-folder is just a default file. The main program has no access to this. Relevant is if a Wdigilok.mdb exists in the WDIGIPET_INT main folder after installation and data restore.

Restored system to before initial install

Installed WDP2012
Entered a different project name at start up (just for a change)
Same result - hanging while attempting to convert V8 database

Wdigilok.mdb default database now exists in both WDIGIPET_INT and PROJEKTE folders.

I already have WDP2012 setup and running on my W8.1 laptop but this was only to get things going. This all loaded up and setup fine. I have setup the backups to a NAS drive so that I can easily transfer versions between the laptop (in the railway room) and the desktop in my study.

My eventual plan is to use the W7 desktop PC with a monitor screen mounted on the wall. The PC in question is still in my study, but will be released when it is replaced by a W10 PC maybe in April.

Could you tell me what branch your Pc is ?

I've heard of several conflicts like yours with users who have a Acer Windows 8 OEM version ...
Also the HP computers with HP Protect Tools Security Manager installed.

Simple installation of a other Windows 8 version or deactivating this HP Protect tools was enough to made it going...

If you want to wait for your other PC to come free it's oke for me. Otherwhise i would have no problem to invest some time for trying to find the problem.

The PC is an HP Compact Pentium 4 (ex works). It's a clean build using W7 home premium (2gb ram) and has minimal software installed other than MS Office 2007 Pro (including Access) and Photoshop CS3 - non of the usual HP "bloatware".  I am a retired IT consultant so I am used to building and sorting out PCs which makes this problem even more frustrating.

i understand from your answer that you can eliminate this problem yourself.

Keep in mind the common factor with all other users, in this case the installation of WDP without problems, so i wouldn't search it in the WDP software.
