The intelligent train number display and reed contacts.
« am: 06. Februar 2015, 02:37:53 »
I'm excited with new features of WDP2015 shown in video presentations. One of a big development is the functionality of stopping trains at the intelligent train number display.
My layout is 2-rail DCC. I use different methods to get a feedback: a current sensing, reed contacts, and light barriers. In 2-rail system there is no way to close the circuit with approaching wheels like it happens in 3-rail system. Of course, sooner or later track appears as occupied with current sensing, but there is not as high precision like closing contact by train wheels in 3-rail system. Locomotive or car draws power from two sections at the moment what is causing some delay in feedback.
Much more precise are reed contacts and light barriers. Light barriers give the high precision for feedback, but are easy to install only on hidden tracks. Reed contacts also provide high precision, problem is with the location of magnet. Magnets are a little bit behind the first wheels. Usually distances 'magnet to front' and 'magnet to back' are different, too.
So, this is my suggestion to add the option in the intelligent train number display, to mark "this is a reed feedback contact" and in every locomotive option to edit distance of magnet from the front and from the back. Also option to mark "this is a light barrier" and it would ignore distance to the contact wheel.

Hello Kuba,

I was reading your thread and discover some things that may be interesting for you ...

Zitat
I'm excited with new features of WDP2015 shown in video presentations. One of a big development is the functionality of stopping trains at the intelligent train number display.

This Feature is already in the V2012.3  german version. I should install the UK version to say something usefull about this issue.

Zitat
In 2-rail system there is no way to close the circuit with approaching wheels like it happens in 3-rail system.

isn't there ?  do you mean something like this >  http://www.floodland.nl/aim/info_bmd16n_sd_en_1.htm

At his RM module you can also connect a IR sensor ( light Barrier) >  http://www.floodland.nl/aim/info_lichtsluis_en_1.htm

Zitat
in every locomotive option to edit distance of magnet from the front and from the back

what do you think about this feature ? see the printscreen . You can enter the distance between the front or back to the wheels when the contact is made.

grtz

eric

Eric,
- the intelligent train number display is already in the version I use, i.e. en2012.2, in 2015 there are additional features like bi-directional traffic
- in 2-rail you can't close circuit with locomotive wheels like in 3-rail
- distance "front to wheel"/"back to wheel" is good for current sensing method there is no need to change, for reed contacts the distance "front to magnet"/"back to magnet" would be separate measurement

Hello Kuba,

Zitat

Oke, that was not what i read in your thread. I only read that you said " stopping trains at the intelligent train number display." But indeed , the Bi-directional is new in V2015.

Zitat
in 2-rail you can't close circuit with locomotive wheels like in 3-rail
correct, in 2rail this is done with current difference. But what is your problem then ?
A plane flights and a car drives on the road ? i don't understand you statement ...

your last question is also not clear for me what you want with it ...

there are two ways in handling RMK as you maintain them in the railplan. See screenshot.
The second one also suggest reed contact.
In the picture i showed you in the first thread  there is a option to tell the program wenn a detection can be expected. So i don't see the difference in current sensing or with a magnet.

Hello Kuba,

you can use resistances on the axles to create feedbacks even on 2-rail wagons. I use resistance paint. That works very good and WDP recognizes my wagons.

There are no two different fields to enter the distances to the axles or to the magnets. What you can do is to vary the point where to stop in the iTND or you use the deceleration correction. But it would be better to use either feedback or reed control and not mixed.
Viele Grüße,
Stefan

Stefan, I use resistance axles in freight cars. In most cases they are installed by the end of train. It works OK.
Different situation is with locomotives. All wheels on each side of locomotive are electrically connected together. When the first axle approaches new feedback section, it doesn't mean that the minimal power to activate feedback is immediately drawn from that section. Reasons can be many like a dirt causing higher resistance than in the other section, or lower voltage in new section etc. Every delay affects iTND operation.

Hello Kuba,

right. This is a matter of the trains or the layout as you said.
